Each qualification is aligned to a specific role or career path, and range in duration from 12 months to 4 years.
As a line manager, you will be required to support your colleague in their learning journey, providing them with opportunities to grow their knowledge and skills in the workplace, throughs hand-on activities and learning opportunities, in addition to providing them with the time to attend formal learning interventions delivered by the training provider.
It is important that you read our Greencore Qualifications guide before approving a colleague for any qualification so that you fully understand the commitment required and the impact it may have on your team.
It is worth assessing the skills gaps in your team to make sure the qualification your team member is wanting to study is meaningful and valuable to your team’s development. More guidance on this tool and your resulting conversation can be found in the ‘Supporting Colleagues to Succeed’ section below.
Before signing off your colleagues for a Greencore Qualification, we recommend you make sure you are comfortable with the commitment and support needed from you to provide your colleague with the best experience possible.
To set our colleagues up for success, we need to support them. As a line manager we recommend agreeing with them an effective personal development plan, and discussing with them the steps needed to progress their career. Sometimes, a qualification isn’t the right solution. We encourage you to be open and honest, and guide them in the right direction. Opposite are some links to tasks to LMF to support you with these discussions. It is also important to make sure your colleague has a mentor that can support them with the programme – some of our qualifications make this a mandatory requirement. A mentor can help colleagues manage their time, share experiences and support with their individual development needs.
