Transport/Warehouse Operations Supervisor

The Transport and Warehouse Operations Supervisor qualification is designed to support with managing the day to day operations involved in supply chain, ensuring activity, people and/or vehicles meet customer expectations along with regulatory and legal requirements.

The qualification allows you to specialise in one of two areas;

  • Transport supervisor ensures the safe and compliant utilisation of all drivers and equipment – Colleagues on this pathway will also work towards the and achieve a CILT (Chartered Institute for Logistics and Transport) qualification.
  • Warehouse supervisor ensures the provision of a professional incoming goods, storage and dispatch service to customers.

This Level 3 qualification provides the opportunity to gain the knowledge and experiences required to manage the day-to-day operations involved in supply chain, ensuring activity, colleagues and/or vehicles meet customer expectations along with regulatory and legal requirements.

By the end of the 12 month programme, colleagues will be able to to manage their own work with a high level of autonomy and leading a team to effectively and efficiently deliver departmental and organisational objectives.

What you need to know

This is a 12 month programme of learning, followed by a 3 month End Point Assessment. To meet the Level 3 Transport and Warehouse Operations Supervisor Apprenticeship Standard.

 To be eligible for the programme you will need to:

  • In a role that enables you to meet the Knowledge, Skills and Behaviour objectives of the programme
  • Have been employed by Greencore for a minimum of 6 months at the start of the programme, and successfully passed your probationary period
  • Have previously achieved a Level 2 English and maths qualification (equivalent to GCSE grade C or 4)
  • Have been consistently rated as ‘Doing A Good Job’ or ‘Outstanding’ in the last three Grow with Greencore check-ins
  • Not on a fixed term contract or time limited visa that is due to end before the planned end date of the programme
  • Spend at least 50% of working hours in England

This qualification is suitable for colleagues working at supervisor level or above, in a transport or warehouse role with Supply Chain.

You’ll need to be working in a role that will enable you to undertake and practice the skills, knowledge and behaviours required either as your current role or as step-up responsibilities. These will include supporting, managing and developing team members, core production KPI’s, managing processes and projects, planning and monitoring workloads and resources, delivering operational plans, resolving problems, and building relationships internally and externally.

 You will need to provide evidence of attainment a GCSE grade 4/C or higher in maths and/or English (or equivalent).

  • About our Partners

    The first GTG training centre opened in 1971. GTG (or the Glasgow Training Group) was established in Kirkintilloch, specialising in automotive training, and began delivering apprenticeship training qualifications in 2017 specialising in transport, automotive and Supply Chain subject areas.

  • How is the course delivered?

    This qualification will be delivered virtually, through a combination of e-learning, webinars, online live workshops, tutorials and guided study.

    You will be part of an open cohort, which means you’ll work with other employees from other organisations as well as Greencore colleagues.

    At the end of the course, you will undertake an End Point Assessment (EPA). This will include a combination of assessment methods to validate your learning, including a portfolio of work-based activities, in addition to a formal assessment of your knowledge through a test, a project and structured interview or professional discussion.

  • What will I learn?

    Over the duration of the programme you will study the following:

    • To allocate and monitor work and set objectives including continual professional development (CPD), for transport/ warehouse team members.
    • To identify skill and knowledge gaps in their own performance and team performance in relation to transport/ warehouse operations.
    • To plan training to meet the requirements of the business and the team members including where required, Driver Certificate of Professional Competence and Material/Mechanical Handling Equipment requirements.
    • To lead team and departmental communications and meetings.
    • To schedule journeys, planning routes, timings, costs and resources. Calculating driver hours/ use of tacho graphs and selecting the appropriate vehicle and ancillary equipment for the load being moved.
    • To identify and propose innovative business improvements

    Colleagues following the Transport pathway will also complete their CILT qualification.

     

  • How will I be assessed?

    Throughout the programme you will complete assignments and tasks relating to each study module.

    You will also be required to complete a work-based evidence portfolio to demonstrates your competence against the skills required, and tracks your learning hours.

    The End Point Assessment will include:

    • A workplace project report
    • Presentation
  • Where will training take place?

    Knowledge study will take place virtually.

    Off the job time will be taken through a combination of activities, including study blocks, online learning and practical activities in the workplace. This qualification typically requires around 278 hours of Off the Job learning time.

  • When will the qualification start?

    Enrolments will take place within three months of your application being approved.

    Enrolments will be assigned based on site/functional business needs and capacity on each cohort.

  • What does the application process look like?

    Once you’ve applied, your eligibility for the programme will be assessed based on your application form.

    We’ll then confirm your application with your Line Manager, and may undertake any additional checks to ensure that your role meets the requirements of the learning objectives of the qualification.

    We’ll then ask HR teams to review all applicants as a function/site, to ensure that they are supportive of the application, and have the resources and capacity to ensure success on the programme.
