Our Engineering qualifications are designed to give you the hands on training needed for engineering tasks such as preventative maintenance, fault finding and repairs safely, to support with developing our aspiring asset care technicians or maintenance engineers.
As the Engineering qualifications require face to face learning on a regular basis, and we work with multiple training providers, we are currently able to offer this qualification to the following sites:
The Level 2 Engineering Operative qualification is delivered over a period of 24 months and covers a wide range of common and job specific skills sets that can be transferred across the manufacturing engineering industry. Colleagues will learn how to carry out a range of engineering operations which could include ensuring machines and equipment used are maintained and serviceable, dealing with breakdowns, restoring components and systems to serviceable condition by repair and replacement; operating a variety of machines (CNC or Conventional); assembling and repairing machine and press tools, dies, jigs, fixtures and other tools; fabrication/installation of a wide variety of other sheet fabrications and equipment and; fabrication and assembly of metal parts joining techniques; preparing materials and equipment for engineering processes, providing technical support including communications software, test tools, performance, capacity planning, and e-commerce technology as required.
The Level 3 Engineering qualification will skill colleagues to work as part of a team to provide technical support and expertise for all areas
of the Engineering and Manufacturing function including communications software, test, analysis tools, measurement, off line programming, process control, performance and continuous improvement solutions, capacity planning, production scheduling/planning, product technical applications and capability, technical sales and marketing support, product development and innovation, engineering drawing, purchasing and/or supply of goods or services for engineering activities, quality control, inspection and e-commerce technologies as required.

How long will I study for?
The Level 2 programme may take up to 24 months to complete, which includes the End Point Assessment.

Am I in the right role to apply? These qualifications are aimed at colleagues who are already working with Engineering, typically in an Asset Care or technician role and essentially carry out a range of engineering operations and duties.
Your role will need to enable you to undertake and practice the skills, knowledge and behaviours required either as your current role or as step-up responsibilities.
Do I need to take account of any prior learning? You will also need to provide evidence of attainment a GCSE grade 4/C or higher in maths and/or English (or equivalent).
It’s important you let us know about any pre-existing qualifications at the application stage, so that we can validate your application prior to enrolment.

The majority of learning will take place on a day release basis at the training providers premises. In addition, you may be required to undertake further virtually.
You will be part of an open cohort, which means you’ll work with other employees from other organisations as well as Greencore colleagues.
At the end of the course, you will undertake an End Point Assessment (EPA). This will include a combination of assessment methods to validate your learning, including a portfolio of work-based activities, in addition to a formal assessment of your knowledge through a test, a project and structured interview or professional discussion.

Throughout the programme you will complete assignments and tasks relating to each study module.
You will also be required to complete a work-based evidence portfolio to demonstrates your competence against the skills required, and tracks your learning hours.

At the training provider premises on a weekly day release basis.
Off the job time will be taken through a combination of activities, including study blocks, online learning and practical activities in the workplace.
Enrolments will take place from September.
Enrolments will be assigned based on site/functional business needs and capacity on each cohort.
Once you’ve applied, your eligibility for the programme will be assessed based on your application form.
We’ll then confirm your application with your Line Manager, and may undertake any additional checks to ensure that your role meets the requirements of the learning objectives of the qualification.
We’ll then ask HR teams to review all applicants as a function/site, to ensure that they are supportive of the application, and have the resources and capacity to ensure success on the programme.
